— Who is Caring Cowgirl?

Founder and Executive Director, Elizabeth Madera Evans

Elizabeth is a Mexican-American horsewoman who has an extensive history of professional care for horses and their people. Having come from a long line of farmers and rancheros, it was when she started teaching adaptive horseback riding to children with different abilities that she was able to recognize the awesome improvements in the physical, mental, and emotional health of her students. With this new perspective, she felt an urge to share access to these experiences and techniques with wider audiences. Thus Caring Cowgirl was born, prompting the idea of Minis in the City and Ranch Visits for Everyone. Having been raised in a Mexican household speaking both Spanish and English, Liz unapologetically celebrates and welcomes diversity in her work and daily life.

Caring Cowgirl Values

Inclusivity —

We provide access to horses and our donkey at low to no-cost. Love from these animals shouldn’t be a luxury. Experience guided therapeutic equines visits. Available in English and Spanish.

Human and Animal Well-being —

Here at Caring Cowgirl we are committed to engage and inspire others through the love of equines. Our rescue horses and donkey remind us to care for nature and celebrate how we all communicate differently.

Accessibility —

Our ‘mini’ mobile unit can provide therapeutic mini equine visits to groups in the city! Schools, group homes, youth crisis facilities with outdoor spaces, we got you.

Advocacy for social change —

We will always advocate for rights of immigrants, BIPOCs, LGBTQ+, the special needs community, and anyone who feels marginalized. As the daughter of an immigrant, Elizabeth, the Caring Cowgirl, has a deep capacity for empathy and understanding. Through Caring Cowgirl (501c3) we hope to offer moments of peace and opportunities for sometimes difficult conversations about equality and social justice.
